Amplifiers

In audio applications, an audio amplifier (or amp) is an electronic device that increases the power, voltage, or current of a low-amplitude electrical audio signal.

Its primary purpose is to strengthen weak audio signals—such as those coming from a microphone, musical instrument, or media player—to a level that is powerful enough to drive loudspeakers or headphones and produce audible sound.

In concert and stage applications, a simple light (or non-DMX fixture) refers to an analog lighting fixture that operates entirely without digital control protocols.Instead of being programmed or adjusted remotely via a lighting console, 

its operation (such as turning on/off or dimming) is managed directly by controlling the physical power source—typically through standard electrical switches, direct power cables, or central dimmer racks.

Unlike simple lights that only turn on or off via physical power switches, 


DMX-enabled lights receive digital data signals from a central lighting console or software. This allows a lighting designer to remotely and precisely program, automate, and manipulate a wide array of dynamic parameters in real time, including

  • Color Mixing: Changing colors instantly or creating smooth transitions using internal LED arrays or motorized color wheels.

  • Movement: Controlling the pan (horizontal) and tilt (vertical) of motorized moving head fixtures to sweep beams across a stage.

  • Intensity and Effects: Adjusting precise dimming levels, programming high-speed strobe effects, or switching between different beam patterns (gobos) and focus levels.                         

Accessories

In stage concert applications, other accessories refers to the secondary or supportive hardware, tools, and utility equipment required to connect, secure, power, and optimize the core audio, visual, and lighting systems.While they do not generate sound or light themselves, these essential components ensure the structural integrity, safety, and operational seamlessness of a live production. They generally include:

  • Cabling and Power Distribution: Interconnects like XLR cables, Speakon connectors, DMX data lines, and heavy-duty power drops (distros) that deliver power and data across the stage.

  • Support and Rigging Hardware: Equipment such as microphone stands, speaker poles, instrument racks, lighting trusses, clamps, and safety cables used to elevate and secure gear safely.

  • Cable Management: Tools like heavy-duty rubber cable ramps (to protect lines and prevent audience tripping) and Velcro ties or gaffer tape to keep stage wiring organized.

  • Performance Aids: Utility items used directly by performers or crew, including direct injection (DI) boxes to convert instrument signals, guitar stands, and music stand lights.
